I think this is the period when rabid fan support starts to wane because they don't get to see their idol on a weekly basis on TV and hardly hear any news from them so...it's sad but I think this is the reality for most non-winners. The tour concert will undoubtedly win him new fans but since i think most of the concert goers are already set in whom their idol is(considering they only get to see 2 to 5 songs from each of the idols like once during the concert), the tour itself won't probably bring any resurgence in popularity for him. I am, however, still a fan and will always be.It's harder for me and others like me because we don't live in the US and we only get to see him on YT, a few news clippings, few tweets from him and other posts from fan threads. This is what makes me a bit sad...I LOVE Anoop's voice...I am absolutely mesmerized by the richness of his tone and the earnestness of his singing and I'll absolutely miss hearing something new from him... I am actually worried for him(well not really for him but moreso for me...because I don't get to hear him sing) because from what I've been reading in tweets, blogs, news tidbits(especially during the middle of the tour), reception to him has been largely just okay and a bit lukewarm(few news bits I've read still don't get him and put him as forgettable) and clearly overshadowed by all the Adam hype(which for the life of me, I don't get--I mean he's really good but...I just don't get it). Add to this is the fact that he's clearly in the minority...he's almost an oddity in the world of pop music--you know, he's not white, black or Latino. And the American music industry is not known to be pioneering or prone to breaking stereotypes(hence the Mileys, the JoBros and such). There are a hell of a lot of R&B singers(who look and sound so much the same IMO)out there but that's what's funny....there are already a lot of them out there but they keep churning them in bulks one after the other in the hopes of finding the next big thing...using the exact same formula....good-looking and sexy young black female or male who can dance and has passable vocals..... I know there are more low-key R&B artists out there who are supported by the smaller, more intimate record companies who seem to cater to the more mature, discerning crowd(the crowd who care more for quality than chart positions and record sales)...well, I do not pretend to know everything about the music business and I'm sure the smaller record labels are in one way or another connected to the biggest names in the biz...such is the trend it seems nowadays. Well, enough of my rant....bottomline is Anoop can count on me to wait until he gets his first single out there...no matter how long....I pride myself in thinking i have good taste when it comes to music....Anoop has got IT. N.B. I reposted this from IDF(where I have been posting regularly) where it has been eerily quiet lately. I mainly came to proboards before to get tips for voting during the season.I hardly went here afterwards because I keep forgetting my username. However,I must commend people here. You guys are the reason why Anoop calls his fans one of the best there is-so organized and dedicated.Kudos! Like I said in my rant...Anoop will always have my support....fan for life... I love the smilies here.... BTW, were some of you guys the same ones who posted something about Jay Sean a few months back regarding putting YT video The Only One for Me on loop to get to 10M views ? Jay Sean's US debut single "Down" has just been released on iTunes and is doing very, very well.I love that tune. And because he's British-Indian, it gives me hope that if he can make it, Anoop can too.of course, Jay Sean's been in the business for a much, much longer time but still....it may finally show some record producers that pop R&B is not automatically equated with black people.Plus that Jay Sean has some songs that show Asian(Indian) influences...and it sounds cool....there is hope. Sorry for the long post.... ...love the smilies....

Hey! I share your concern. But I am optimistic (while being realistic at the same time).
Since the tour started, this board gained 120 new members. So I don't think the support is waning. The support is less frantic, however, for the obvious reasons---no more voting, so no more frantic effort to campaign for votes.
With 120 new members here, and 75-90 of the members checking in here at least once a day, I'd say we have a pretty active fanbase. Our task is to convert this figure into something a record label executives can substantiate.
There is a portfolio thread in the "Campaign" part of this board that you definitely want to participate. And please continue to share your thought on this forum.

Hello jga94! Thanks for posting. You have GREAT taste in music!! I love smooth R&B, but get sick of the SAME product playing on the radio. I really believe Anoop can change that. He is different. He is better.
We here will do all we can to keep the hype going for Anoop! We have faith that he will have a great music career!

Hey there jga94,
I can totally understand your concerns, but as you said in your post, the bottom line is that Anoop can count on you (and us), no matter how long it takes. There are, of course, no guarantees that Anoop will get a record contract, but I do feel strongly that as long as we're making Anoop noise (and what great noise we make!), there's a chance that someone will take notice.
If Anoop considers the Idol Tour as his "job interview", just think of us as his references. We are loud and proud about the fact that we love his music, his personality and are excited about the music he will produce and we'll let anyone who will listen, know that.
I know it's difficult to keep the momentum going with the AI show being over, but I certainly feel (and think others agree) that Anoop has grown so much since the show, and it was simply a launching pad to greater things. I assume that when the AI Tour ends in the fall, it may be that much more difficult to stay motivated. But hey, we're Troopers - so, that's our job, right? We will keep on keepin' on!!! LOL!
I'm so glad you posted here and declared yourself an Anoop Fan 4 Life - it's great to have dedicated people like you on board! At the end of the day, no matter where Anoop's music career progresses, we'll know that we've done our very best to spread the word about his voice and music. And as an added bonus, we'll have met many great friends along the way...
Your fellow Anoop Fan 4 Life, Anjana

awwwwww =) i posted something similar to this in the dallas thread. Us Troopers are different from the others. We have heart, class and are motivated. We don't take for granted the wonderful talent this is Anoop Desai. The others are happy about their faves being signed, but it seems that it stop there. They're happy and thats about it. Us Troopers on the other WILL NOT give in so easily. We believe in our boy and have high hopes for the future. Once he does come out with a contract, the triump of that will mean so much more because we know we stuck with him from the VERY BEGINNING always believing that one day, that dream would become a reality. It will mean all the more because everything we did was not in vain, all the pimpin, making the buttons, the charity for eve...none of it will be forgotten.
I highly anticipate that wonderful moment. Each time someone asks him about his fans or when he speaks of us...his smile says it all. He takes pride in you guys and others (non-anoop fans) are taking much notice. Keep on keeping on troopers. We're doing our job sowing and paving the way and soon enough the reward will be reaped and it will mean all more because we know, we (and anoop of course) fought for it despite the negative. =)

Dear jga94 -- The welcome mat is always out for Anoop appreciators such as yourself. I must say, the sentiments expressed already are all true and very full of WIN! Anoop has grabbed our devotion the same way he grabbed Trooper Diana's phone at the Dallas bus barricade and happily chatted to many of us listening from all over! Here's where I beg to differ with you... we DO get to hear him sing almost daily via Rickey's cellcast of the tour shows.... the sound may not be as clear as we'd want, but we know it's Anoop and we can instantly hear how the crowd is responding to him. All through the day and night, we send Anoop Twitter messages to encourage and entertain him, and he returns the favor with Tweets of his own as often as he can. We understand Anoop likes to read his Kindle and needs to rest the silky smooth vocal chords, as well as recharge the increasingly popular gyrators, so we use the time to think up ways to increase the buzz. It's too bad you've felt Anoop's been off the radar, because he's been the primary target of our attention and efforts to support him through this journey. Hopefully, you'll join us with the mission of Anoop Troopers, AnoopFans4Life, we all want the same thing..... it's what Anoop wants -- to make music people love forever. Because Anoop was inspired to audition by the memory of his friend Eve Marie Carson, we also remember her as we work for Anoop's success through the Carolina Blue AnoopWBand campaign to benefit the Scholarship Fund in her name at UNC. We didn't know each other before we heard him say "you can call me Noop Dogg" .... but we are all friends now from all over the world... having daily chats and Tweets, checking on Anoop's interviews, analyzing tour videos, and being "strategic and organized" (Anoop's words). I hope you feel welcome and no longer feel that his support is waning... we KNOW it's just the opposite, and we've still got a ways to go... together!

Ohmigod you guys! Can I cry like a baby? ? *sobs* I love you!!!!! I am so happy that I met you through Anoop. And Anoop, thank you for being the conduit for our friendship. That alone, makes you a winner. But we are not stopping there. We want you to be successful. I don't think he will (or anyone who has never been sucked into one of these fandoms) ever understand how emotionally invested I am in Anoop. I really want him to succeed. And I know his success will make me happy.

Ok, the tears are now flowing...wow, it's amazing to think that Anoop has brought us all together...so many different types of people, from all over the world who may not have met through "normal" circumstances.
I think you guys (and other Troopers) are some of the kindest, most compassionate people I have ever met. When I try to explain to other people the feeling of community that the Troopers provide, they find it hard to understand. Why do we put so much time and energy into promoting a cause (Anoop & his music) when a) there are no guarantees and b) we don't know each other and c) we don't even know Anoop personally?
Here's my response to that: Anoop and his music have touched us all very personally, in different ways I'm sure, and we have come together, mind, body and soul, to do what we can to get his music out to the world. If that means spending a few bucks to buy WBs for a great cause, or tweeting about him, then heck, we will do it. And luckily for us, we've found other dedicated, intelligent people to do this with.
Something important I've learned along the way, and it was actually something our fearless leader Yoko said (love you, Yoko!) is that fans have different ways of showing their love and appreciation and we all have to respect that. I think the Troopers are genuinely great at being respectful of each other - we may not always agree, but we are always respectful.
My friends/family tell me I'm crazy all the time with my Anoop obsession....but if crazy means being passionate about something I love, then go ahead, send over the straight jacket. I'll bring a few for you guys too!
My final thought: Let's "keep doing what we're doing" (that's what Anoop asked us to do!) with our end goal always at the top of mind. Let's continue to find every bit of Anoop info/pics/vids and keep the interest and support alive. And of course, let's do this TOGETHER!

I understand your concern, being a fan live halfway across the globe from him myself. I live in a country where AI this year is no longer broadcasted by local TV so we watch it via cable. It affected to people's conaissance to AI 8 and media coverage was so few that even The Jakarta Post –Indonesia’s largest English newspaper- only covered AI 8 in 3-4 articles –including Adam’s interview with Rolling Stone. I felt like a lonely people; thanks to internet I was able to meet other rabid Troopers and Indonesian Troopers (I scanned thru facebook, twitter, multiply, blogs, to find and to contact fellow Indonesians who love Anoop). I understand to your notion that this is a hard time for int’l fans to keep up their self-buzz on Anoop as he no longer on our TV on weekly basis. I must say I had this feeling too; I wondered what next for Anoop? But, that only if we use single measure to calculate Anoop’s popularity because in fact, as the tour started, I see he’s doing great on tour, live, in front of thousand people including media and music industry pundits. In tweeter non-Anoop fans say Anoop surprise them with his ‘voice, versatility and personality’, and even media love him (hello, where have you been, folks?) and a lot people are converted to be Anoopers. As most people say here, one reason why we do the campaign continuously is that Anoop has touched each and everyone of us in inexplicable way. And why do I’m so into this, it’s simply because I regard the value of journey. Seeing him walked into the room for audition, watching his video of his college days, I was mesmerized by his will to walk on the path to his dream and the courage to take this unconventional detour. A bumpy ride he had during AI run, yet he stood tall to prove he has something. I still remember how we used to analyze the effect of judges comment on him psychologically; now we see that experience teaches him to be strong, to keep himself showing his true colours that make us fall for him in the first place. (while teens told me they love his sexiness, I was also contacted by some mesdames saying they want their kids to be grounded young men like him while uhm, babbling about his hawtness too. Oh my ;D ) We still have no clue where this would lead to. Sure we wish all the best for him so much that we keep the buzz on and to show industry that Anoop does have selling point to music lovers and to show him he’s loved. It’s like we tell him ‘you do your part and we do ours’.
Oh, I forgot to tell you guys how lucky I am to be invited to join this forum months ago. We share the believe that hardwork would finally paid-off one day; so far y’all manage to keep doing some things fruitful while having fun as well. I see this forum as the one-stop forum for Anoopers to get info and update, a forum that helps new Troopers learn and get buzzed on Anoop. And the wristband campaign is a win to support the cause that is close to him. As for me, the wristband is a memento that brings a sentiment to remind me on the beauty of a journey. I believe you share the same feeling too.

Don't make me cry, I'm at work!
I seriously love the way we have all come together for a single cause. Anoop is truly amazing to bring all these people together! He will never know how much he has touched our lives. We each have something to offer and when you put all that together - we are unstoppable! There is power in numbers! And we know Anoop loves having us on his side.
I am proud of Anoop. It is an honor watching his journey, watching him grow. Besides being an amazing singer, Anoop is a great guy! He is the kind of person we all strive to be. We should be telling our kids "Why cant you be more like Anoop?!"
I am proud of Anoop's fans. Stay classy like Anoop. We don't trash other Idols or their fans. We know Anoop would not approve and we wouldn't want him to be ashamed of us. This has become a great family! I am having so much fun with all of you!
By the way - the real work begins when Anoop gets a solo deal! So get ready to rock Troopers!

I mean, he's the reason I posted my very first reply ever, and now I have a total of 4 posts (I'm slowly making progress). I can't believe he brought me out of the lurkdom! I recognized there was something special about Anoop from the day of his audition and felt an instant connection. I think that the difference between Anoop's fans and the fans of others is the fact that the connection we feel goes much deeper. It's not just about his music or the fact that he's gorgeous, but it's that we genuinely care about HIM, and I think that's pretty great! Not that the others don't care about their idols, but with Anoop, it's just different. I will always be a fan and strong supporter of Anoop, and I truly believe with all my heart, that he will have a long and successful career!

I'm trying not to cry... Hi jga94, I believe you use "yummier" or something in the AI boards? I saw your post there... =) I'm an international fan too like you & I depend on the cellcasts to be in the tour. I miss more of it now that the cellcast is like 2 hours earlier but thank youtube & the street team, I could watch the videos. I agree it's a bit quieter over there but like I said, there could be a lot of reasons why the troopers are not posting there. Most are here, trying to get the clips, photos & revies as soon as they become available. i don't think too that the support is waning because he converts fans through this tour so in a way, there's more of us now. I'm not sure what fans of other idols are doing but I believe we rock in terms of promoting and supporting him. There might be negative reviews but we have to use them to make us stronger, right Diana? Oh my, this is hard... typing & hiding your tears... I don't want to leave too. I met wonderful people here....I love you guys!

Awww. These things you guys are writing about waiting for Anoop is incredibly sweet of you. And yes, most non-winners of American Idol don't really get that much buzz anymore. But like you said, we are a dedicated fanbase and we will not give up. But come on, be a little positive. Jennifer Hudson didn't win, in fact she's a 6th-placer just like Noopy D. And I say that she is getting a fair amount of buzz, and I think it's because she has some really devoted fans. And we, us fans should and will always support Anoop. I have never felt so attached to any other contestant on American Idol before. I will support him to the end, and I mean this. We all care about him, don't we? And he IS gaining lots of fans.
And one thing you said that was wrong was is that you said that reception to him on tour has been largely okay or lukewarm. That isn't true at all. If I can recall, I've posted lots of reviews and have read quite a lot too. So far, he's been getting really great praises from fans, and not "lukewarm" praises, GREAT praises. Sure, there will be some "lukewarm" ones, but he's been getting more reviews that use lots of superlatives when describing his performance. A lot of fans who have watched the concert have said that the concert never really started until Anoop performed. And I think that that is one really great comment.
Sure, let's be realistic, not a lot of 6th placers on American Idol with great marketability got all popular. Many predicted some of the 6th placers to get really famous because of their great singing qualities etc, but we can never really tell. And I am more than determined to make Anoop's dreams of becoming a star come true. [/b]

Some are just a bit too unclassy.. Anyways, back to the point, we are a classy fanbase, and it's good that we're like this. Anoop is proud of us. We try to be as classy as him, and we should, as his fans, we should represent him well. It doesn't speak well of him if we trash other finalists. Anoop always talks about how dedicated and devoted we are, and doesn't that make all this hardwork we're doing for him all worth it? Doesn't it make all the effort we put into the campaigns, petitions and scrapbooks all worth it? He appreciates us, and he cares about us and loves us just as much as we do him.[/b]

ok guys and gals. I refuse to believe in whining and crying. I am of Indian origin and consider myself a stauch supporter of AD for a long time through the ups and downs. I have chosen not to write a lot and have become more of a lurker - however i have not given up hope and have done and will do all i can to support him. I know for a fact that Yoko and Neet and Daisy Kary, Snickers etc (to name a few) have been doing quite a lot to get the news about Anoop out there. LETs not get down, look at what we have achieved so FAR and we are so close to getting Anoop a deal - LETS not give up . Lets keep going with the youtube campaign and the blogs. YES WE ANOOP and DEFINATELY CAN .

Cheers for our friendship; I'd never believe I would find friends thru virtual world like these before, let alone put trust on so-called virtual friends. I kept asking myself why and what makes me get into this fandom during the show and got teary back then. (I had never even bloody care to find ways to vote). Reading this thread is a déjà vu to that feeling. And this link from jml4anoop is another reminder of his reason to do it all. A personal journey that affects us all. www2.journalnow.com/content/2009/jul/30/desai-loving-the-idol-road-but-hell-be-in-home-sta/entertainment/Oi, you bring back that feeling lads. Well, I'm not sure if I want to tell my son to be more like Anoop! My son loses things all the time (e.g., phone charger, iPhone earset) and misses his bus at least once a month. Lol. There’s a habit here in which married women with kids consider their fangirling phase is over so they tend to not be that impressive in public. Well, you rock, Yoko!

I have been a total fangirl all my life. But as I get older, I have become a lot more "long term." I mean, nowadays, when I committ to fangirl over an artist, I committ myself to fangirl for a long time.

I love you all, Troopers. This thread made me cry. We love Anoop and have formed such bonds with each other. This fandom is something I treasure. It's an amazing group of people all coming together for one amazing, talented man who is a true Idol, being someone people can be proud to look up to and support and someone whose voice reaches into the depths of our hearts and souls (and FRO's) **TROOPER HUGS** YES WE CANOOP! This journey has sometimes been a bumpy ride, with a roller coaster of emotions, but all of that has only made us stronger as a fanbase and has made Anoop stronger as a person and a performer. He is growing with each tour stop. I am so proud of him, we all are. Keep your heads up, Troopers! The future is bright for our Noopy D!

I think seeing Anoop's dedication has made us dedicated. His class makes us want be classy. etc.... He inspires us. We inspire each other.
I have never wanted to see someone succeed so much! He deserves it! He's not the rockstar, he's not the underdog, he doesn't have the sob story (kinda), he's not the loudmouth, but he's the good kid from a good family who is smart and humble. There's no way he's not going to succeed! He does not fail!

^^So sorry to have caused some distress over here.I didn't mean that fans like you waned in your support...you guys are awesome in your support.I often post at idf and there, the posts have been fewer the past months so I felt there was an ebb. As I have said, Anoop can count on my support no matter how long it takes for that first single to come out. I was just venting...sorry . There...I've changed the title. Why am I seeing this only now?! I love technology. None of my friends give a sh*t about AI so no one knows about Anoop even though I pimp him to them like everyday. Sometimes they tell me that if I'm just gonna talk about Anoop, I should just shut up. But with you guys, I can squee all I want and not be embarrassed by it. Its weird because I don't think any of us would take a second look at each other if we just happened to pass by the same street. The fact that we were able to create a family this tight is nothing short of a miracle. Sorry if I'm being too dramatic. I'm 17..sue me. I love y'all and yes...we anoop. and awesome too

It's pretty natural for support to wane among the general public/casual fans for any non-winning Idol contestant at this point, but it's expected. But it's really great that the tour reviews I've read so far are mostly positive for Anoop, and I think that they are more favorable to him now than they were when he was on the show (probably because the songs he chose for his set were right on point). If we're being completely realistic though, we all know that it's not that easy to make it in the music industry and it could reasonably take a long time before Anoop gets signed to a label...I mean, even we look to someone like Jay Sean, you could argue that he just made it big with "Down" after working hard for years in the industry. Anoop is obviously a very gifted vocalist/musician and he has a lot of things going for him; with this extremely supportive group of fans, I think that he has a bright future ahead of him in the coming years.
