So I just made the poll at ontd_ai. It's here: community.livejournal.com/ontd_ai/3576161.htmlIf you'd like to view the results, click on the link that says, for example on the Canadian one, Poll #1519993. Then, click on View Poll Results. There are already useful comments coming in! OMG mle. You are my hero. Marry me. I would have said so over at ONTD_AI if it weren't bound and determined to scorn all of my accounts so hard. Actually I think it's an issue with my IP or even my laptop. At any rate, I ove you so much.

thanksss sooo much for doing this! im already reading all the feedback! No problem. I just hope people are paying attention and reading the instructions to the poll now (they weren't before lol). If Anoop's people narrow down the areas they might want to focus in and if they have more specific information they need, I can probably make another post/poll later on down the road.

Thanks for the great poll, mle! I think it's really valuable info. Are you from Canada, the UK or the Phillipines yourself?

1. What's the potential marketability in the Philippines, India, and other overseas places? Hey, fans in the Philippines, can you come up with some feel for how many people participate in squeeing on Twitter, facebook, other Philippine-specific forums? ---> I think the Filipino supporters of Anoop are decent in amount but hardcore. I believe that we are the type who are willing to shell out money even though there are less fans in comparison to Kris'. But Anoop could do the Elliott Yamin route and he could do a mall show at either Eastwood or Greenbelt grounds. :-) Anoop as an opening act for Kris would be great since Kris is really popular here. I can't say exactly how much Filipino troopers there are but on Twitter there are a lot. :-) 2. Which radio stations have played his songs? Can you guys post here the station names, locations, and URL? I only listen to Magic 89.9 and during the AI days I heard AOMM being played there a couple of times. magic899.fm3. Any merch ideas? Definitely shirts, sweaters. :-) 4. Besides Twitter, anoop's official facebook, and here at street team, where else do people talk about Anoop? If you know of any, please post the info. I have no clue. :-( Well, the AI boards, too.

By reading the comments there, I am feeling that quite a few people who are not primarily stanning Anoop will also buy Anoop's single if it is good. That's something I really like to hear! You will be around to post info at ontd_ai on where to buy "My Name" when it drops, yes? Please? Support from the benches are crucial in so many different ways. Gosh your poll is giving me hope so much. Haha. I need more life outside of this fandom.

I've been a member at ontd_ai for a long time now, so I was aware that there are quite a few people who don't necessarily stan Anoop but would buy his music if they liked it. I haven't really seen any Anoop haters there, thankfully. I'll definitely still be around to post about single/album info.

Here is what I went to the marketing peeps last night. I am working on summarizing the other part of this report (international marketing feelers, radio stations and merch ideas) tonight. This is a living document. Please feel free to comment so I can make revisions. Internet SitesMajor Anoop Desai FansitesThe following are the fansites that are currently active. teamanoopdesai.com – This is the main Street Team (ST) site. Updated daily. twitter.com/AnoopDesaiNews - ST Twitter. We maintain this. This is used primarily to: (1) post breaking news; and (2) bring people to the ST site when new posts are made. www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=55796619880&ref=ts – Fan Facebook page. I maintain this. I use this page primarily to bring people to the ST site instead of making duplicate posts at ST and Facebook in order to save time and effort. Some fans tend to prefer Facebook and do not venture out to Twitter, so this serves those hardcore Facebook users. www.myspace.com/anoopdesaimusic09 - Fan MySpace. Anita and Diana maintain this. A large number of music fans tend to hang out on Myspace, so this one serves the hardcore Myspace users who don’t tend to venture out to Twitter. www.anoopcast.com - Website for a fan podcast. Sarah, Anne Marie, Trinz, Diana and Melissa publish occasional Anoop-centric podcasts. They are the people behind the live "cellcasts" of Anoop's concerts and a few other appearances. We can likely count on them for live audio broadcasting of Anoop's appearances. Mainstream American Idol BlogsThe following mainstream American Idol blogs have been kind to Anoop’s cause in general. We believe we have a good relationship with both of them. They usually post all major Anoop-related developments (such as the Album drop news and concert info) when we ask them via Twitter. mjsbigblog.com/ - MJ has spread the word on Anoop’s concerts and album release news. The Street Team is grateful for the very good relationship with her. She follows our Twitter. rickey.org – Rickey has supported Anoop during Anoop’s American Idol run. The Street Team is grateful for the very good relationship with him. He generally posts Anoop-related information when we ask him. He was the one who helped broadcast Anoop's video chat back in the summer when some people had difficulties with the source site. Major Media Siteswww.americanidol.com/ - This is the official American Idol website. March – April (which is when Anoop is releasing his work) is when this site attracts a significant number of general AI fans and music lovers, as the AI contestants continue their competition. Consequently, a banner ad for Anoop’s single should make its way to this page or its associated fan community (http://myidol.americanidol.com/ ) if it is at all possible in terms of costs and logistics. Also, an interview article around the time of single release would be very helpful. content.usatoday.com/communities/idolchatter/index - This blog is popular among those AI fans who tend to trust the “USA Today” brand over mj’s blog or rickey. Anoop’s most recent mainstream media interview was by Brian Mansfield who writes this blog. There is no associated fan community. www.ew.com/ew , www.mtv.com/ , new.music.yahoo.com/ - These are mainstream entertainment and music sites. An interview article or video on these sites around the time of single/EP release would be very effective. There is no associated fan community. However, the AI reporters for these sites are very active on Twitter (Michael Slezak, Jim Cantiello, and Lyndsey Parker), and they have tweeted favorable reviews of Anoop’s concerts or posted favorable interviews in the past. Major American Idol Fan CommunitiesThe following AI fan communities are active year around but especially active in February – May when AI is on TV. myidol.americanidol.com/ - This is the official fan community of AI. Many Anoop fans (including Anne Marie, Trinz, and Sarah) participate in this board and will be able to post single/EP info. idolforums.com/ - A very popular unofficial AI fan community. Anne Marie is active in this community, and can post info. community.livejournal.com/ontd_ai/ - A tight-knit community of extremely active AI fans. Tawnee, mle, and Holly, among others, can post info here. pinoyexchange.com/forums/showthread.php?t=394068&page=160 – Fans in the Philippines gather here. Many of the Pinoy Street Teamers can post there. Fan communities of Anoop’s friends and collaboratorswww.etrainstation.com/ - This is Elliott Yamin’s fan community. Because of the synergy between Elliott and Anoop, Anoop-related discussion regularly comes up in this community. Kary is very active here.

I wasn't thinking about them because I was focusing on the internet places that can be mobilized by us (the fans) or at least be contributed by us. However, I will include their names in the final document. Thanks.

Okay so I guess I should comment on Anoopcast since it is in the document. I had been planning on doing this anyway.
So plans for the future are trying to get the podcast to a weekly basis...which it hasn't been out lately because it has been taking a while to edit the two part end of year/looking ahead episode.
But the thing is scheduling, so soon it will be more than occasional (I hope).
And we were trying to get Alex on the show...he said something about coming on when Trinz first asked him about it a few weeks ago, but when we've brought it up again, he hasn't replied about it.
So I'm hoping we're not getting scorned by him, so encourage him to come on because I know it would make Anoopcast more popular and maybe get some more listeners and then more people to promote Anoop to and stuff.
So the podcast has over 3500 downloads of 29 enclosures which include a couple buscasts, episodes, specials, announcements, etc.
The most recent episode has over 200 downloads so far.
And we have a wide variety of people who visit the site. Most visitors are from the US, but we have visitors from the Philippines, Canada, Japan, China, Czech Republic, Qatar, Belgium, UK, Australia, New Zealand, India, Luxembourg, Zimbabwe, Brazil, and other obscure places that I forget where.
So there is a large demographic to Anoop fans as far as I can see.
No to mention we had a lot of people tuned in for the buscasts of the tour, and other AI fans had mentioned that they like Anoop even if he isn't their favorite. If I recall a lot of the Glamberts who were in our chatroom liked Anoop (it doesn't hurt that they liked us as well).
Hope this has helped in some way.

mle, nice poll! Wow, looks like UK is scorning Anoop the most. Haha. 'altogetherisi' is totally right about the large Asian music scene in London, and other cities for that matter, as well as urban styles of music dominating the charts more recently, so I def think he could be marketed over here. Yoko, you've already seen my info but just thought it was worth re-mentioning that person's comments because they're pretty useful!

Yoko, you've already seen my info but just thought it was worth re-mentioning that person's comments because they're pretty useful! Thanks! I noticed the lack of love for Anoop in the UK poll. I think most of the UK members at ontd_ai are Adam fans, and were attracted to the community solely because of Adam, so they probably don't follow what Anoop's doing and the style of music he's releasing may not appeal to them. Based on the little I know about the music scene in the UK, and what you and altogetherisi said, I do think Anoop could be marketed there. The only thing is, he probably doesn't have as many fans already established there because of American Idol (in comparison to other places like the Phillipines, Canada, etc). He may need to be promoted solely as a new artist, which is a little bit more difficult.

Ow..sorry for late reply, but hope I still could share something re ANoop popularity in Indonesia. From what I perceived in local cyber community, Anoop was quite popular during Idol, esp for R'nB fans (male and female). Idol viewers range from teens to 30s yuppies who tend to favor the likes of jazzy, R'nB, soulful contestants. Anoop fans (casual to loyal ones) comes from that demographic as well. Apart of those that I chat with on twitter and FB, I see the casual ones giving shoutout on their blogs/multiply. FYI R'n B is very popular here either for teens and adults (30-40 something) and performers like Boyz II Men, Akon, Brian McKnight enjoy great reception on their concerts (John Legend is the most-awaited act on the next Java Jazz Fest). I believe that if Anoop offer some solid, soulful, catchy song, it'd be a hit here, just like Ellliot Yamin, Kelly Clarkson and Jordin did (their singles are among the most requested ones). There are at least 3 radio stations that put AOMM on their playlist back then: U-FM www.u-fm.com/ , KisFM www.kisfmjakarta.com/ and MustangFM mustangfm.blogspot.com/ . The first two target on 25s-40s yuppies, the last one's popular for high school-college students. I believe other radios also played that song as well, only that I didnt get to listen to it myself and/or I didnt get the info on it. And what cool is that not all of them were played upon my or any Troopers request, which mean somebody else, either casual listeners or particular fans requested it. Other radio with stations in major cities: Hardrock FM (in Jakarta, Bali, Bandung, Surabaya) www.hardrockfm.com/ ; Prambors (Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Makasar, Surabaya, Medan) www.pramborsfm.com/ ; www.twitter.com/prambors;TraxFM www.mra.co.id/ www.twitter.com/TraxFMJKTFYI top-notch stations are Prambors FM, Hardrock FM, Mustang FM for high school-college students, with several stations in major cities; and KisFM and U-FM for yuppies. Hope it help.

Reszz, I sent the report in last night before your post was made. But I will let them know to check this thread so they can get updates. At any rate, here is the report I sent in last night. Anoop Desai Street Team Online Market Research ReportFebruary 2, 2010 Yoko Furukawa (on behalf of Anita and rest of the Street Team) IntroductionPer our communication on January 30, Anita and I asked the street teamers to gather information regarding the possible internet sites where we can relay the single/album info when they drop, radio stations that have already played Anoop’s American Idol singles, merch ideas, and Anoop’s marketability in overseas markets. Many good ideas were submitted by Kary, Faye, Diana, Anne Marie, Jean, mle, Trinz, Sneha, Miriam, Anjana, and Kaye. Most of the discussion took place on the Street Team forum (http://anooptroop.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=campaignboard&action=display&thread=378&page=1) but some discussion was done over the email and phone. Internet SitesMajor Anoop Desai Fansites The following are the fansites that are currently active. teamanoopdesai.com – This is the main Street Team (ST) site. Mainstream American Idol Blogs The following mainstream American Idol blogs have been kind to Anoop’s cause in general. The Street Team is grateful for the very good relationship with him. He generally posts Anoop-related information when we ask him. Major Media Sites www.americanidol.com/ - This is the official American Idol website. In addition, www.BuddyTV.co, www.mtv.ca, and www.muchmusic.com discuss music. Major American Idol Fan Communities The following AI fan communities are active year around but especially active in February – May when AI is on TV. myidol.americanidol.com/ - This is the official fan community of AI. Many Anoop fans (including Anne Marie, Trinz, Nawal, Feng and Sarah) participate in this board and will be able to post single/EP info. idolforums.com/ - A very popular unofficial AI fan community. Fan communities of Anoop’s friends and collaborators www.etrainstation.com/ - This is Elliott Yamin’s fan community. Because of the synergy between Elliott and Anoop, Anoop-related discussion regularly comes up in this community. Kary is very active here. Radio stationsAnoop’s AI singles were played on major radio stations in the Philippines. Fans in the Philippines (spearheaded by Trinz, May and Brooklyn) were successful in requesting Always On My Mind on these stations. They include: • www.magic899.fm/ (magic 89.9 FM) • twitter.com/easyrock963 (EasyRock FM) • www.dwiz882.com/ (AM station) Merch ideasThe street teamers have a wide range of merch ideas, both in terms of styles (geek-chic retro vibe, perhaps?) as well as specific items. Many fans emphasized that the fans come in all sizes/colors/ages so some variety in styles as well as sizes will be appreciated. Some of the ideas include: • T-shirts/tanks/hoodies with smart, cool designs. Perhaps a play on his album cover art, the title “All is Fair”, or simply his name. Something cute such as I (heart) Anoop. • Caps/hats, also with smart, cool designs. • Steel water containers – again, focus on cool designs. • Glasses - www.gogglesandglasses.com/i/1698ClearWayfar/CLEAR_WAYFARER_16071.jpg• Posters • Photos with Anoop’s autographs Overseas MarketabilityThe radio plays (see above) suggest that there are many fans in the Philippines. American Idol viewership is huge in the Philippines, and as a result, many AI finalists, including Kris Allen, David Cook and David Archuleta have done shows there. There are approximately a dozen fans in the Philippines who actively post on Anoop’s twitter, Street Team, Facebook and MySpace. Beyond that, it is very difficult to estimate the number of “fans at large” who do not engage in regular fan interactions but would still likely to purchase Anoop’s single, EP, and/or concert tickets. Out of 480 registered users at the Street Team, at least approximately 40 are from the Philippines. The members are not required to declare where they live, so it is likely that there are more from the Philippines. In addition, Canada and UK are other possibilities. Canada. American Idol is televised and widely viewed in both countries, and Anoop is known. Names of radio stations and specific clubs where Anoop may be booked are provided by Anita (for UK) and Anjana (for Canada). Please let me know if there is an interest. In addition to overseas, the Street Team has been compiling information on the Indian American community media. The list is still growing, and can be found here: anooptroop.proboards.com/index.cg....play&thread=372 SummaryThere are a large number of effective outlets for Anoop’s single and EP info. His fans can be mobilized to disseminate information on those sites that primarily function as fan communities. Meanwhile, bookings on mainstream AI-related media sites are highly desired, especially because Anoop’s single and EP release dates coincide with the American Idol Season 9 TV show schedule. The Philippine radios have been open to the fan requests of Anoop’s AI singles. The fans will continue to request Anoop’s songs as they become available. In addition, the Street Team is in the process of compiling the list of radio stations in the US, Canada and UK that play the types of music Anoop performs. The list will be available at the Street Team shortly. The merch ideas span a wide range of tastes and items. The overseas and Desi media information is still in the process of being collected.

Hi all, Below is some preliminary information for Anoop's marketing team. Please note that I'm still trying to dig up info on marketability in Canada (specifically focused on South Asian community). There are obviously many other online marketing opportunities in Canada that aren't South Asian related, but I assume that the marketing firm would be aware of many of these already. Potential marketability in Canada I realize this is not quite the “overseas” market that was mentioned in the list provided, but I do think that marketing in Canada is extremely valuable. If Anoop and his team want to make a pointed effort in appealing to the South Asian community in North America, both Toronto and Vancouver have very diverse communities with a large contingency of South Asians, which of course, means many South Asian media opportunities. I’ve provided information focused on Toronto and Southwestern Ontario since this is the area I’m most familiar with. I imagine that some of the info I’m providing may already be known by the marketing firm, but I’ve included as much as possible: www.mybindi.com – online South Asian network www.suhaag.com - Suhaag produces both an Indian Wedding Show as well as a magazine. They sometimes have articles about up and coming “desis” in the magazine. Might be a bit of a stretch, but I thought I’d pass it on. There’s also an ad on their home page about South Asian radio – HUMFM 101.3. Could be of some interest. ***I'm still researching this. Since it's an online marketing company that is looking for our input, I wanted to provide on-line recos. I'll let you know what else I dig up. Radio Stations To date, I personally haven’t heard Anoop’s American Idol songs receive any airplay on Toronto and surrounding area stations. However, below is a list of popular stations that have music formats conducive to Anoop’s pop/R&B style. 104.5 CHUM FM (Toronto) – www.chumfm.com (CHUM FM is owned by CTVglobemedia and is VERY AI contestant friendly since AI is broadcast in Canada on CTV). In addition, MuchMusic is under the same parent company. Getting an interview on MuchOnDemand (interactive music show geared towards 14-26 yr olds) would be great exposure. 99.9 Virgin Radio (Toronto) – toronto.virginradio.ca/ 93.5 FLOW (Toronto – mainly R&B/hip hop format)- www.flow935.comZ103.5 (Toronto) – www.z1035.com 92.5 KISS FM (Toronto) – www.kiss925.com91.5 The Beat (Kitchener-Waterloo) – www.915thebeat.com – Listenership of about 200,000. I actually have connections at this station (the morning show host is a neighbour of mine and the music director is a friend as well.) In terms of an online marketing strategy, as a digital marketer myself if I may be so bold as to make suggestions, I would encourage the following: - Maximize the potential of the Facebook Fan Page. So many great opportunities here. Here’s a link to an interesting article I found about making the most of your FB fan page www.toprankblog.com/2010/01/facebook-marketing-fan-pages/- Update Anoop’s MySpace much more regularly – add preview music clips, friend other artists, include “coming soon” info, solicit feedback etc. - Encourage more Twitter engagement – what he’s up to (interviews, media gigs, events he’s attending), host contests and ask ppl to RT (e.g. Merch design contest, win copies of his EP), solicit feedback about where he should tour. A couple more websites to add: www.BuddyTV.com - Well-known for doing AI interviews etc. www.mtv.ca – we all know how well Jessi and Anoop get along ;o) MTV Canada is also owned by CTVglobemedia. www.muchmusic.com – Biggest music channel in Canada. As I mentioned above, this is also owned by CTV (who airs AI in Canada). I hope this helps. Let me know if you have questions about anything, and I will continue to investigate other marketing avenues. Anjana

One thing. I attended an Elliott Yamin show in NYC and spoke to a woman and her daughter. She said she found out about Elliott's appearance through the USA Today Idol Blog. I do think that there are many older folks who are active online with Facebook, email, newspaper sites (like my mother) but don't use Twitter or Idol-centric blogs like MJ's or Rickey's.
