Question: What can we do to help Anoop get a record deal?
We all love Anoop because he is a great singer with very smooth, soulful voice. Even his harshest critics admit that he is talented, original, very likable artist with a huge appeal. Anoop has a worldwide following and very loyal, strategic fan base as evidenced by close to over 37,000 followers on Twitter and over 200,000 plays on You-Tube. It does not hurt that he is a nice guy who happens to be humble, educated, & smart too.
Idea: Find a way to reach TPTB, key decision makers at various Record Labels including account executives, A&R, producers, talent Managers, agents, music managers, Radio stations, etc. We can also help Anoop by making him aware of new potential opportunities (gigs, leads, requests, and ideas) and bringing them to attention of CAA and others.
Question - How to reach “decision makers"?
Idea: Network
Each person enlists at least one new person who believes in Anoop, and who is willing to work hard for this cause. The new person then enlists one more person, and so on and on. It is important that they are all serious about achieving a common goal - To help Anoop get a record deal.
This is very similar to power voting but with a twist – target people who are prepared to use their personal, professional contacts to help us get up the ladder and ultimately reach the Record Label executives, Agents, A&R, TPTB. Use Networking tools like LINKEDIN to find new people to network, and even create new groups. This is our best opportunity because of the tour & fresh exposure. It will be important to keep this simple, positive, and professional.
Comments and suggestions are welcome. We will also need a volunteer to lead this initiative in a professional, dignified way and keep it going until we reach our objective.

It's a great post to get us started on brainstorming. If there is any street teamer who is in the industry, or has a sister in law who is in the industry, please speak up! Also, anyone who books events for business or charity fund raisers?

Thanks Yoko. Targeted, focused marketing will be the key. Path from here to the top of the pyramid will probably go through many fans, well wishers and potential collaborators and they will come in form of your neighbors, friends, hair stylists, co-workers, business partners, customers, or fellow church goers. Of course, local Radio and TV personalities, News paper reporters can also be key links.

We've tried this during voting season. It doesn't work unless we have enough people to start with. Give it time. It's only July after all. Ask around find connections. And we'll hope for the best.

For those who are not familiar with LINKEDIN, please check out that free application as an option to achieve our common goal. I would love to hear your comments after you have done that.

OK let's change our basic assumption.
Instead of hoping for "the decision makers" come to us or CAA with an offer, how can we go to them and encourage them to take a serious look at Anoop and his music?
The steps are: a) Identify & be prepared to make a "cold" call (Twitter, Linkedin, Facebook, Myspace, websites) b) Make a compelling argument (Music, Bio, fan base, DBI index, website, etc.)
If we are making cold calls, we must use utmost diplomacy, discipline and be subtle, sensitive Example: NC State fair. Hope they are interested, but does anyone know what the deal is? Can WRAL / @raleighwood help?

Hope they are interested, but does anyone know what the deal is? Can WRAL / @raleighwood help? I know NC State Fair was definitely interested. I called Anoop's booking agency once, trying to figure out how much it would cost to book him for, say, a private function. I was told "AI contestants coming out of the show costs anywhere between 50 and 100K plus travel expenses." I thought it was rather high, but don't think they were bluffing, either. I know someone who looked into booking David Cook for a charity event (a New Jersey cancer research fundraising). Although Cook was doing college venue tour for 15K/show at the time, she said the price she was quoted was "MUCH HIGHER" than the 15K. Aledgedly the college show was subsidized by the record label. I believe his cost will come down once he is out of the AI contract.

Let me throw on the table what a group of us at Andy Skib street team did back when Andy didn't have a dayjob as a bandmember for David Cook.
(1) We wanted Ellen to invite Andy, or at least talk about him on her show. We put together a farily professional-looking portfolio with a bunch of photos, a bio, and DVD with his performances. We sent it to one of the producers of the show through someone who personally knew him. Nothing happened.
(2) We made "a cold call" to iTunes, asking for them to get Andy's independently produced EP on their "indies" section of the top page. They actually called us back, had some back and force convo, but in the end, it did not happen.
Besides these, we did a petition, distributing his EP to radio stations, and stuff. I don't believe his EP ever had any radio play, though.
I am not trying to discourage any pimping project. I am just trying to be realistic.
Realistically speaking, the best thing fans like us can do right now is to keep the buzz going and making it louder. This forum as 350 members and on average 80-100 discrete individuals log in and post/browse per every 24 hour period. That is a lot of activities. Besides this board, Anoop has a few fansites that are actively updated. I'm sure people who run them can get the hit stats.
Anoop is in a far better position to talk to the industry people than those of us who are just random fans. However, when he makes those "cold calls" and have "meetings," he can QUANTITATIVELY discuss how big his fanbase is.
But seriously, if anyone has an idea or knows someone who has connections, PLEASE SPEAK UP.

You guys are awesome. That's also made me think after Anoop voted out from AI on how we can help him to make a record. Anyway, I checked my BSB/Britney CD and mostly produced by Max Martin. I don't know how we can send them email or something. I think we need to be interested first on great producers. We can list all producers, DJs, etc. Search their bio, interest, and accomplishments. Send them cards that their work inspired us and we admire them. Then when given a chance we can pimp Anoop. I'm not in US so I don't know how I can help.

wow, this is a lot harder than i thought. imma have to do some hardcore research on this. I do know that a lot of hip hop artists live in the Houston area. I do know someone who supposedly knows Paul Wall ( i say supposedly because he only mentioned it)
I do know someone who is related to Chingo Bling...but he's a pastor so i wouldnt even know how to approach him about getting close to him LOL
I kinda sorta know someone thru online who have a small record company. What they mostly do is make beats and sell them. I would imagine that they do know a few peeps in the business or how to go about it.
I'll try my best to figure this out.

Yoko's right. We just have to keep the buzz going. Record execs have people who look up websites and see how many fans an artists has. They look at how many people are talking about them - becuz those are the people who will buy the CD. So just post about Anoop EVERYWHERE!! Anoop is gonna have to do some of the work himself. There is a limit to what we can do, but Anoop can point us in the right direction when he needs something. He knows we're organized and ready to help. He will use us when he needs us. Obviously once he releases a single, it will be our job to request it, etc...... Anoop WILL get a record deal. There's no way all those labels are gonna let him slip away from them. There is money to be made here!

Agree with Daisykary.
NC State Fair is a great example of power of “networking". Finding out decision makers, gentle persuasion from fans, Anoop expressing interest, and CAA working out a deal everyone is happy with. Thanks for starting "NC State Fair" thread.
Congratulations to everyone.

Just a thought... Maybe we could also try requesting for Anoop songs on the radio. They're bound to look for it & maybe play it when a lot of people are requesting. It will show that the station have a lot of listeners & they would not like to lose any of them right? There will be more pressure to the stations...

I am so excited that the philippine troopers are being so successful at requesting his tracks. There is a tangible track record of Anoop being on demand there. That's got to mean something, when he plans for a tour in the future.

I talked to the program director of one of the FM stations that played AOMM. I thanked him for including Anoop's song in his playlist. I know I was blushing then because of the thought of Anoop & the program director is smiling at me in a fatherly way that says' "haha i know why u keep on requesting his song!" =)
*waiting for Anoop's debut album & world tour* I hope he visits the Philippines
