Not sure if there's already a thread about this but I figured since the season's long over, another season of AI will soon start and Anoop's beginning the next phase of his journey...I just thought it'd be nice to reminisce how Anoop caught our attention... Let me start... I have always watched AI since season 3 and have only skipped season 6 (because aside from Melinda, nobody really caught my attention). I have only really "cared" for one other contestant the entire time that I casually but faithfully watched the show--Elliott Yamin so I'm not really the AI viewer type who obsesses over a contestant season after season. The first time I saw Anoop was during the Kansas City auditions. The moment he came in the room, my first reaction was geek alert...and at the back of my mind...he'll be the next Sanjaya(mixed with maybe the token geeky-dorky guys--like the "chicken little" guy, Jon Peter Lewis, the red-headed crooner from S3, etc.). He sang "Thank You" and I said....nice voice but I wasn't immediately blown away(That is not my favorite BIIM song)...I was like many others...I didn't expect him to have a smooth-sounding voice. But I was like thinking maybe the get-up(the shorts and the flops) was like a way for him to get attention...or maybe he's really a geek.he didn't really leave a more lasting impression on me but he was definitely one of the better ones I have heard thus far. While surfing through a forum on the show, someone posted YT links to Anoop's performances with the clef hangers and this got me curious because they were raving about it--particularly Kiss Kiss and Buy U a Drank.I checked the videos and was impressed and thought these were fun although I have never really been into hiphop(I didn't even know who T-Pain was(dorky me )...I knew Chris Brown but never really was a fan....still wasn't blown away.... Then I was glanced over the YT sidebar where there are link to the other clef performances....Angel of Mine particularly struck me because that song is one of my favorites songs of ALL TIME...it has personal meaning for me...i was thinking a guy a capella group covered this?!Hmmmm....kind of a long way from T-Pain covers, right?(Part of me was thinking kind of sissy--ish....and may be a total disaster...). Checked Angel of Mine out........whoa .....I never thought I could LOVE THIS SONG MORE....but Anoop's version...his voice and the harmonies with the clefs.........he brought this song to a new level........bam....I'm a fan! That's when the obsessing started....I couldn't stop listening to the clefs(particularly where Anoop is lead)....my faves would be: -Angel of Mine -The Only One for Me -Crazy Love(beautiful...beautiful...altho I like the tempo better of the version Anoop did with Amos Lee) -Can U stand the Rain -Because of You -Sexy Love Then AI came....not only does Anoop have a fantastic voice...he has an engaging personality as well--well-spoken, witty, respectful, a little boyish, emotional yet reserved(if that makes sense)....he's like your average Joe(well, maybe not Joe because he's Indian)...he's just so normal....makes you want to root for him.... I have always thought that he did his best performances outside of AI....I think he "overthought" his AI performances which made him sort of "not connect" as much as he did with his other performances but I think that's another thing that makes me root for him more.....you kind of "get" that he's struggling and learning much like a baby takes his first steps....you know....he may fall but he'll get up and try again and he does better with each step......I'm not a mother but idk it's the feeling I get with him........like I'm watching great potential unfold right before my eyes..... And now that he's on that next step of his career...it makes things even more exciting...and I can't wait to see (more so hear)what's next with him....

Ok. I must really have a thing for dorks, because I thought Anoop was hot at his audition. I also loved the way he dressed. He just seemed so normal to me. I felt his excitement and anxiety while waiting to sing for those talentless, immature, drugged up, overrated judges. Loved the way he answered so eloquently to Simon's stupid comments. It was kinda funny, because I know Simon didn't expect that. I was praying that he would do well so that I could see him again, but since AI isn't very good at surprising it's audience, I already knew he would. Although I was not crazy about his song choice (Anoop, what's up with your song choices?!) I was blown away by his beautiful voice! The obsession began. I couldn't watch a lot of Hollywood week, but remember turning it on one day and my heart was beating a million miles a minute hoping to find Anoop still there. I was relieved to see the cute guy in the scarf, even hotter than I remembered. I remember thinking that I have really good taste in men. haha! I started looking him up online and came across UNC Clef videos. When a bunch of guys in pin encrusted vests started singing I think my exact words were "What the he)) is this sh!t?" Haha! Of course after 5 seconds I loved the entire group. I must have listened to them for hours. I guess with Anoop it was love at first sight!

I happened upon Anoop when I was browsing through the internet and stopped by at mjsbigblog.com. MJ was introducing Anoop as one of the "rumored" Top 36, with a bunch of Clef Hangers videos. I was hooked immediately.

I am obsessed with music so I watched every year of AI. I never voted or got too into it. It was just a show I watched. The show is cheesy but every now & then I find good talent. I loved Kelly AND Justin, Tamyra, Eliott Yamin, Blake Lewis, Daughtry, David Cook, etc... but I was not emotionally invested in any of them.
I am a huge R&B fan - LOVE Boyz II Men! Anoop's audition was awesome! I wanted to keep an eye on that guy. But he was only ONE of my favorites. I thought Kai Kalama would be my guy for the season! But I also liked Matt, Danny, Adam, Allison, Jesse Langseth, Felicia Barton, Ricky Braddy, etc..... They didn't show Kai during Hollywood week and by then I had seen the Clef Hanger videos. I was hooked on Anoop!! And who doesn't like to say "Anoop"?! I love that smooth voice, I love the soulful vibe, I love that he is intelligent, I love that he went to UNC, I love that he loves basketball, I love that he was a Clef, I love that he's dorky, I just love everything around him.
I knew it would come down to song choice. Amazing how easily these people can blow their big chance! I was happy about the Top 36. Then Anoop sang "Angel Of Mine" and I got goosebumps! THIS IS MY GUY!! I was very hurt when Michael Sarver got thru and Anoop didn't but I KNEW he would get a Wildcard. I understood people voting for Sarver because he's the "hard working American guy" with a good voice but I could not fathom the season without Anoop! So I went online and helped with the "Anoop for wildcard" campaign. I never do that! "My Prerogative" made me love Anoop even more! He was so dorky and cute! I just wanted to see him succeed! And I knew he would improve. That's the fun of the show for me - watching them grow.
And I totally agree with the above: "I have always thought that he did his best performances outside of AI....I think he "overthought" his AI performances which made him sort of "not connect" as much as he did with his other performances but I think that's another thing that makes me root for him more.....you kind of "get" that he's struggling and learning much like a baby takes his first steps....you know....he may fall but he'll get up and try again and he does better with each step......I'm not a mother but idk it's the feeling I get with him........like I'm watching great potential unfold right before my eyes....."
EXACTLY!! The show had them running around doing photo shoots, interviews, Ford commercials, everything BUT singing. They don't seem to nurture the contestants, they want to destroy them because it's more dramatic for tv. I am not a mother, but I feel so protective of Anoop. I got way too emotional over the juges comments. I wanted to strangle them for hurting that adorable boy! Apparently he handled it better than I did. And I kept saying 'I am not watching this stupid show after this season!" I stopped watching when Anoop was voted off. I didn't care who won, I had found my Idol!
The tour has shown that Anoop is soooo much better than when he was on the show. And he will continue to improve. And I will enjoy watching his journey.
And thanks to Anoop. I am now a huge fan of the Clef Hangers!

;D And may I add that Anoop has not only gotten me hooked on his voice...he also got me to have a second look at the R&B scene...ever since the surgence of hiphop into mainstream(I actually associated hiphop with R&B because they sort of overlapped), I got kind of disinterested (mainly because of some--not all of course--of the popular songs with all the abusive language and the --I feel--disrespect for women)....
But because of Anoop (and his very vocal love for R&B music)...he got me to check out R&B---he made me love Ne-Yo(I've always thought his songs were on the cheesy side) and I rediscovered other R&B artists like Maxwell(love), India.Arie(love-love-love), Lyfe Jennings and of course Chrisette Michele and Jazmine Sullivan(I had no idea who these two were before Anoop kept mentioning them).....I must say....I owe him that...

Im not a fan of AI.I don't even watch their show. And I don't have time to watch it because of my study. But one of my "bestfriends",Jona is inlove w/ Kris Allen. She always watch AI.She loves Archi and Kris.SO I tried to watch it.I gotta say my first fave is Kris cause he is cute and also bcoz of Jona. but when I saw Anoop singing Ooh baby baby,I said to myself"this cute indian is so good". but Im not that interested to anoop...It's the only episodes that I watched. one time,I researched Kris in yt.I love his voice and face.and then suddenly I research Anoop Desai and I saw many videos of him.The first video I watched is "the only one for me".and it blows me away.and then I saw myself watching all his vids in that day.TOOFM is the birthplace of my ANoopaholic. And I am now a certified CLEfhanger FAN! and because of Anoop and clefs,I made a YT account(i really don't have)and I LOVE ALL THEIR VIDS esp. when Anoop is the lead! because of Anoop I learn to love Neyo's song but I gotta say I love Anoop's version than him(peace out!) I also learn to download all anoop's vids in YT. I also have twitter, myspace etc. just because of Anoop. and I found all the good people in this world, thanks Troopers! thanks Anoop!

I never followed the Idol scene before Anoop. I think it's alright to call my love for Anoop, love at first sight because I fell in love with him the moment he entered the audition room. I like the "comfy" clothes he wore that day. I didn't pay much attention to his song but I liked his voice. I never thought I'd follow the show just to see him but I found myself waiting week after week.
I stumbled upon his cover of "Angel" in YT then I started to look for other videos. I found "Bring it on home to me" and the clef videos. At some point, it felt like I still can't get enough so I visited the Idol site for the first time. I visited his folder there & lurked for a while. After seeing the posts of happy Trooper family, I decided to sign up & here I am
I always liked adorkable guys, guys who could sing & make you feel warm all over & Indians because of their eyes. I hit jackpot when I saw Anoop because he's the complete package! He got everything & he paved the way for me to meet wonderful people. He opened a brand new chapter in my life - I'm a fan of other artists but I'm never this emotionally involved.
Looking forward to seeing / hearing more of him. If I'm to pick one or two of his songs to be a Trooper theme song, I'd pick EID & Because of you. We're all stuck with him in this wonderful journey

First of all, i love asian people primarily because i am an asian myself (haha what a no brainer statement). Well anyways, Ive been an AI follower for 5 years and every season im watching out for any asian contestant who will make the cut especially filipino contestants. And then i saw ANOOP entering the room and getting ready for his audition and boom instant likeness.. gorgeous eyes and gorgeous smile..indians' eyes totally have the power to to like hypnotized you because they're so beautiful especially Anoop's..and when he started to discuss about his his thesis..poof likeness leveled up..oh my gosh what an intelligent adorkable guy...and then came the magical moment..he sang...OMG (heart fluttering) i was instantly in luv...he totally possessed the voice of an angel..i instantly became an avid anoop fan.
From then on i found myself getting super excited to see him and hear him sing week after week. I really rooted for him especially since there was no filipino who made it through hollywood week. I liked him even more (i don't know if that's possible because i already liked him to the NTH power haha) when i saw his video with the clef hangers and when i googled about his school achievements.. he got it all molded into one anoop.. ooh wow He is really my kind of guy.
Contrary to what others say, i love all of of anoop's song choices in the show. But sadly my feelings and opinions doesn't emanate that of the people of America's votes. i was soo sad when he was voted off. What a wonderful b-day gift that is..i almost cried because of the irony of it. For me, he is the American idol and i still love him up to this moment..
I'm definitely looking forward for his album. and once its out. I'll be the first to buy.."itaga nyu yan sa bato"..haha:D

I'm gonna keep this short and sweet. :] First time I saw Anoop was at the auditions while I was watching at my friend's house. And to be COMPLETELY honest, I wasn't in love with him the moment I saw him. A plaid shirt, khaki shorts and flip flops do not make my heart flutter (Sorry for being harsh, but I didn't judge him at least!). It was when he sang that I fell hopelessly in love with him. And seeing him in hollywood week, top 36, clef hanger videos just made me fall even harder for him. I was hooked with him after hearing all the things he sang. And all of that crazy fangirl moments led to me being here now, still fully-supporting Anoop and having met all these AMAZING Anoop fans.

I think I didn't notice Anoop during the Kansas City auditions. I remember Gokey and Jamar and others but I didn't remember him. I think this was because I was watching AI at work (lol) and I must've missed some parts and didn't bother watching it again. I first read about him in another forum; there were saying he was good and they even mentioned his thick eyebrows. But I was not yet hooked. I think I was watching out for Gokey during Hollywood week and I became a fan of Adam when I saw him during group day. I think Anoop caught my attention because he was Indian and well, I want to see Asians in the competition (because I'm Asian, too ). I was happy for Anoop when he got to the top 54, then the top 36 and I thought he should go through the first round, along with Danny and Alexis, even though I didn't like Angel of Mine. Then I bumped into a forum (pinoyexchange.com), and that was where I discovered the Clefs. The first Clef video I saw was IMLTY (yes! IMLTY), and as we say in Filipino "nalaglag panty ko" meaning my panties dropped =)). That was when I got hooked.

Let's see: dorky college student, BBQ and an ability to make a woman swoon.
Yup, I think that basically sums it up.

I was watching the auditions and when I realized his last name was Desai, I was hooked because I knew my neighbors were Desai's. Once I knew he was from UNC, and I have tons of family and friends from there, that was it for me. I didn't care how bad he was, I thought he was adorable. My mother and I were both very surprised that he had that kind of voice, and he was immediately my favorite from the beginning.

It was instant... at his audition. It was because of being a Carolina guy with complete knowledge of BBQ... to top things off, not only was the vocal devastating, but Simon didn't expect it... nobody did. Yes, the gentleman was charming right from the jump! How very refreshing! We all rooted for him all the way, and when we realized about Eve Carson... the attachment was permanent. As we discovered the Clefhanger videos, we hoped he would be able to show is skills under the umbrella of TPTB on the show. Of course, we voted seriously and rejoiced at Top 13, but it was clear the show was messing with him. Anoop's composure was stellar, and when he spoke it was thoughtful and endearing. When he made Top 10 it was beautiful. Anoop's exit from the show was a relief because he needed some hometime. By that time, some of the fans were becoming a Fan Family, so we grouped up to support Anoop's dream in any way we could. His loyal fans from the beginning all know he WILL achieve HIS success... which is not necessarily the same for everyone. Being along on the ride with Anoop and the Fan Family is a complete pleasure. The rest is archived here on Street Team, where we share understanding of our devotion to Anoop's dream of making music we love forever. His dream is certain, as far as I'm concerned... Anoop does everything the Carolina Way!!
